The starter packages often have many other features such as, free modem which might be wireless to accommodate wireless access in your home, free or cheaper security software for virus protection, web based email accounts and webspace to build your own small websites. Set-up help and support is also vital component of starter packages. There is sometimes a one-off connection fee on top of the monthly charge.

Starter packages often have the option of increasing the usage allowance for a fee if the customer finds that they have reached the limit too quickly and want to continue.

Top Tips

  • There are lots of starter packages to choose from so spend some time to comparing the offers
  • If you have a landline, your BT cables should support starter broadband without any changes
  • Your usage may well increase as you get better at using broadband so make sure you can easily upgrade the starter package if you need to (and check what the next level of access costs)
  • Free broadband will only be offered as part of another service e.g. a phone contract
