It is quoted as megabytes per second (Mbps) of electronic data that can be downloaded to your computer. High speed packages will always point out that speed relies on a number of other factors such as where you live, how close you are to the exchange and the quality of your telephone lines.

With a high speed connection via ADSL web pages are presented quickly and so speed is a very important factor for heavy web surfers. The speed will also make a difference to how long it takes for very large files to be downloaded.

Broadband packages for high speed connection are generally more expensive but they provide almost instant access to most areas of the internet and for consumers who download huge amounts of data the higher speed can add up to many saved hours.
