March 13 2008: Welcome to our BRAND NEW poll.
Each financial year (April 6 until April 5) every UK citizen over 16 is entitled to save £3,000 (as at March 2008) tax-free. Normally, we have to pay income tax (at 20%) on any interest we earn in savings accounts.
However, the government launched Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) in 1999 to encourage people to start saving and it seems to work because, according to official statistics from HM Revenue and Customs, in the six months between April and October 2007, nearly 10 million ISA savings accounts were opened.
If you currently have an ISA we are interested in finding out if you make the most of your tax-free allowance and so we bring you our latest poll.
