A certain level of organisation is required if you wish to pay your credit card bill over the telephone because in some instances you will need to call at least 5 working days before the payment due date.
Bank with credit card provider
If you bank with the provider of your credit card you can pay your bill using your bank’s telephone banking. However, you need to be registered for this service before you can start making payments through it.
If you aren’t registered for your telephone banking service already and wish to make your credit card payment through this service you will need to ring your bank to complete the registration process at least 5 working days before your payment due date.
Once you are registered for the banking service you will need to have your bank debit card number, or telephone banking membership number, and your passcode ready when you call to make your credit card bill payment.
If you are registered for your bank’s telephone banking and have a credit card with the same bank, you can normally pay before the end of business hours on the payment due date. The back of your bill will give you more specific information regarding this; it is important that you take the time to look at it because the timings could differ between credit card providers.
Don’t bank with credit card provider
If you don’t bank with your credit card provider, you can use your own bank’s telephone banking to pay your credit card bill. To do this you will need to be registered with your own bank’s telephone banking service.
Once registered with your own bank’s telephone banking you will need to make your payment at least 3 working days before your payment due date.
To pay using your own bank’s telephone banking service, you will need to give them some details relating to your credit card account. This normally includes the credit card company’s sort code and account number, as well as your credit card number.
