You will need to be organised to pay your credit card bill at your bank because the payment must be made at least 3 working days before the payment due date.
Most credit card companies allow you to make your payment at any UK branch of your bank but you may have to pay a fee for using this service.
To make your payment you need to fill in the bank giro credit slip and cheque with the exact payment amount including any decimal points.
You will need to make your cheque payable to the credit card company and most ask you to put some of your details next to the payee, for example:
Credit Card Company (A Jones – XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX)
Most lenders also ask you to write your postcode on the back of your cheque in case it becomes detached from your bank giro credit slip.
If you don’t use the credit card providing bank for your other banking needs you can often go into a branch of the credit card issuing bank and use their free telephone banking phone to make your credit card payment (see section 9.5 Paying your credit card bill by phone).
