The first thing you should do before you fill in your application is check that the webpage you are on is secure. If a page isn’t secure, the information will not be encrypted and could be read by anybody if they see it (see Section 7.2 ‘How to check a webpage is secure’).
Once you are sure the web page is secure, you can start filling in your application. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to do this because if you give inaccurate answers, the application process is likely to take longer or you may get turned down altogether.
The form will ask for all sorts of information, most of which will be mandatory (essential). The questions that require mandatory answers will have a * next to them. The questions without a * will be optional so if you choose not to fill them in it will make no difference to your application.
If you haven’t filled in all of the necessary answers and then click on the ‘submit application’ button, the application will probably not be sent off. Instead, the form will be returned to you with red writing indicating the mandatory answers you have failed to provide. Until you complete these you will not be able to submit the form.
It is always best to be honest when filling in your credit application form. Your application will be checked against fraud databases to check that the application is not an attempt to wrongly get a credit card in someone else’s name. Additionally, it is best not to lie about your income because you risk being given credit which you will not be able to manage. Credit card companies assign credit limits to help you as well as them.
