"First Direct - fabulous customer service" - salsachick (20-Mar-2008)
Fantastic telephone and internet banking. Can't fault it for that. 24 hours. No Indian call centres. In 14 years with them, they only ever made one mistake, and were quick to rectify and cover any costs.
Never been the greatest with the rate of interest but their customer service was so good I was happy to stay with them. In 2007 they actually put a zero rate interest on this account so I decided to leave to go to Nationwide's Flex. Other factors for my leaving were other irritating introductions from First Direct for charging for the account etc (if you didn't qualify in other areas).
Ironically, they currently (Mar 08) offer one of the best fixed rate re-mortgages around, and it offers all the good features of an offset mortgage at that! So, if going for their offset mortgage product you'll need their '1st Account' to link to it.

I was shopping around for sometime looking for the right account. After reading a review on this site and checking out all the details this account seemed perfect for me. The customer service was great, very friendly walking me through each step and the process was also very fast. Well done!
