Credit card reward schemes are becoming popular with consumers.
Women are proving more resourceful than men when it comes to finding a bargain and adopting ways of saving money, according to a survey from Tesco Bank. Researchers found that the majority of female shoppers are using vouchers to save money this Christmas. In addition, one in three are using up credit card loyalty points and rewards while shopping for presents.
Women reveal careful Christmas strategies The latest research from Tesco Bank has highlighted women's determination to save money this Christmas. The financial services provider commissioned a poll of 2,000 adults, conducted by research from 72 Point Ltd, which revealed that nearly 60% of women are using money-off and discount vouchers for their Christmas shopping. More than two-fifths (45%) of female respondents said they would be doing their shopping on in-store discount days, while 24% admitted they would simply recycle unwanted gifts from previous years.
Overall, 46% of women who took part in the survey said they would be looking for ways to save money over the festive period, compared with just 32% of men. Female participants were also more likely to have agreed a Christmas present budget with family and friends, with 28% of women claiming to have done this, along with just 18% of men.
David McCreadie, managing director of banking at Tesco Bank, said: "Our research reveals that women are more financially savvy when it comes to finding ways of making their money go further this Christmas, increasingly looking to reward schemes and discount offers to help pay for Christmas presents."
Third of women use credit card points and rewards Tesco Bank's research also revealed that many women are making the most of credit card loyalty schemes to save money this Christmas. One in three (32%) said they were using points and rewards built up with their reward credit cards to pay for presents. Mr McCreadie said that a reward credit card, such as the Tesco Clubcard Credit Card, is a "great way to earn and spend this Christmas".
Another example of a credit card that offers rewards is the Amex Platinum Cashback card (18.5% APR variable), which offers 1.25% cashback, doubled to 2.5% for the first three months and on every anniversary. Alternatively, consumers may want to consider the Play.com credit card (16.9% APR), which awards bonus PlayPoints during the first 90 days of the card's life.
