Wireless broadband is becoming more popular.
Countries that are members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) are experiencing significant growth in high-speed internet subscriptions, largely as a result of demand for wireless broadband deals, a report shows.

Latest data on broadband subscriptions showed a slowdown in fixed line subscriptions during the first half of 2011.

Yet the number of wireless subscriptions increased by 14% compared with the second half of 2010, and by 26% year-on-year, with a greater number of people apparently choosing to compare broadband packages for mobile devices.

Switzerland and The Netherlands have the highest rates of fixed broadband lines (more than 38 lines per 100 inhabitants), compared with the OECD average of 25.1 per 100 people.

Meanwhile, the highest rates of mobile subscriptions were recorded in Korea, Sweden, Japan and Finland.

Figures for the UK show that the nation comes mid-table for wireless broadband penetration, with 36.5 standard mobile broadband subscriptions per 100 inhabitants, as of June 2011.

The report also shows that the UK has more than 20 million fixed broadband subscriptions, at a rate of almost 33 lines per 100 people.ADNFCR-2196-ID-801229921-ADNFCR ADNFCR-2196-ID-19464191-ADNFCR
