Visa tests mobile alerts for payments

Visa Europe has launched a trial of an alert system for credit card payments.
Customers will receive a text message or mobile email each time they make a transaction using their Visa prepaid, debit or credit cards through the new programme.
Information on the cost of the purchase and the time and the location of the payment will be sent through to cardholders on their mobiles or smartphones.
The trial has been designed to cut down on cases of credit card fraud.
Sandra Alzetta, senior vice-president of innovation and new product development at Visa Europe, said: "We want to offer cardholders the reassurance of knowing, in real-time, exactly where and when their card is being used.
"If something looks suspicious, this will give them the power to put a stop to any fraud taking place on their cards."
According to the latest British Crime Survey, cases of credit card fraud and crime related to online shopping transactions are on the rise.
