Travel insurance sales up among older people

Sales of annual worldwide travel insurance increased by 41% last year, while demand for winter sports cover also rose by 20%.
The figures indicate that a growing number of older people are embarking upon multiple trips and choosing to indulge in more adventurous activities.
Furthermore, the report suggests that the internet is increasingly being used by older people to locate the best travel insurance, a finding that reflects previous research by Ofcom.
Joe Young, a spokesman for Age Concern Insurance Services, commented that globe-trotting is "no longer the reserve of the young".
"As the population ages, we predict a travel boom which will see even more mature people exploring far-flung destinations," he added.
According to the Ofcom research cited by the Age Concern report, three-quarters of adults used the internet in 2009 and there has been an above-average increase in the number of over-65s going online.
