Student loan delays lead to 'restructuring'

A new report is critical of the student loans provider.
The service offered by the Student Loans Company (SLC) has been strongly criticised by a new report from Professor Sir Deian Hopkin.
According to the former vice chancellor and chief executive of London South Bank University, this year's delays in getting funding to undergraduates were caused by administrative and technical "failures".
The report, jointly commissioned by the government and the SLC, also highlighted failings in the organisation's call centre network.
Only 5% of phone calls from students were answered when demand for assistance was at its peak, Professor Hopkin found.
Wes Streeting, president of the National Union of Students, commented: "Given the catalogue of failures identified by this report, heads must roll if the public are to have any confidence in the SLC in the future."
John Goodfellow, SLC chairman, said that there would be a "restructuring" of management.
"I am most grateful to Professor Hopkin for his speedy and authoritative report," he added.
