Scottish and Southern Energy have also announced today that they will be increasing its gas and electricity prices by as much as 29%.
E.On was the first energy company today to declare that it would be increasing its prices for domestic customers.
Scottish and Southern Energy then followed its lead this afternoon, saying it would be increasing gas prices by 29.2% and electricity by up to 19.2%, as of 25 August.
Both companies blamed the need to put prices up on the increases in the cost of wholesale energy.
Alistair Phillips-Davies, the energy supply director at Scottish and Southern Energy, said: “The world is experiencing an energy shock of a kind not seen since the early 1970s.
“Energy suppliers have to take steps towards covering their costs and I am sorry that we cannot delay these price rises any longer.”
On a positive note, the company also announced that its customers would not see prices increase again during 2008.
