Regular servicing advised to avoid breakdowns
17 February 2010 09:26:16
Spring services may reduce the need for breakdown cover claims.
Drivers should ensure they take their car for regular services to reduce their chances of needing to make a breakdown cover claim.
Barry Smith, UK sales manager at car servicing firm XPart, advised motorists to visit their local garage as spring approaches, so that their vehicle can have a health check or a service.
"Keeping a car regularly serviced not only keeps the car running more efficiently, consuming less fuel and reducing emissions, but also saves the owner money in the long term by avoiding expensive repair costs," the manager explained.
"A well-maintained car will also hold its value for longer," he added.
Mr Smith noted that motorists should not be complacent once spring has started, as the season brings large quantities of rainfall and vehicles must therefore be safe for travelling on wet roads.
He also urged drivers to "check their car's bodywork for any corrosion caused by the wet weather" and to contact their garage with any concerns.
Motorists should find details on the recommended servicing schedule for their particular car in the vehicle's handbook.
