Satnav systems are popular among older car insurance customers.
A significant proportion of older car insurance customers are keen to use technologies that may enhance their safety and driving experience, new research suggests.
Research commissioned by Saga Motor Insurance and conducted by Opinium found that 32% of over-50s value satnav systems, while 20% are in favour of cruise control.
However, while older drivers embrace technologies that improve their safety or driving experience, they are less likely than their younger counterparts to keep distracting devices such as iPods and Smartphones in their car.
The car insurance provider found that just 12% of over-50s have used a handheld mobile phone while driving since it became illegal to do so in 2003, compared with 33% of 18 to 34-year-olds.
Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman of Saga Group, noted that drivers may find themselves out of pocket if they forget to take personal possessions such as mobile phones with them when they leave their vehicle.
"We are urging people to make sure they keep high-value items out of sight and to check they have adequate insurance cover," he advised.
Since December 1st 2003, it has been illegal to use a handheld mobile phone while driving a vehicle.
People who flout the ban face a £60 fixed penalty, as well as three penalty points on their licence.
