Classic cars are prone to winter battery problems.
Classic car owners have been advised to take special care of their vehicles at this time of year to reduce their chances of relying on breakdown cover.
According to CTEK, a company specialising in the care and maintenance of vehicle batteries, one in four classic cars develop battery problems during chilly weather.
The statistic highlights the importance of proper battery maintenance, as many owners could otherwise be left with a car that will not start.
CTEK chief executive officer Jarl Uggla commented: "It can be a massive disappointment when you come to start your car after a few months without use to find that the battery has failed and your car will not start.
"Not only is this frustrating but can often mean that drivers have to pay out for a new battery."
The company offered a number of tips for classic car owners, such as carefully cleaning the top of the battery, terminal posts and connections with water and baking soda in order to remove any dirt or moisture.
Corrosion can be avoided by keeping contact terminals clean, dry and lightly greased, while the battery itself should always be kept charged.
Breakdown cover provider the AA recently revealed that battery faults were by far the biggest cause of vehicle failures over the winter months.
