One in five young drivers 'have raced on roads'

Speeding is commonplace among young car insurance customers.
The majority of young people have been a passenger in a car driven by another young person at more than 40mph in a 30mph limit, a survey has found.
Research by road safety charity Brake and FedEx Express questioned 2,800 youngsters about their experiences of driving.
Nearly one in four (23%) admitted that they had raced on a public road, while 10% had overtaken a vehicle without being able to see what was coming in the other direction.
Brake campaigns officer Ellen Booth said: "Many young people get a thrill from driving fast with their friends in the car, but because of the way young people's brains develop, they often don't yet have the ability to control their thrill-seeking tendencies."
Young motorists who crash while driving at speed will almost certainly need to compare car insurance offers more carefully in the future, as the incident will lead to higher premiums.
However, speeding-related incidents can also lead to the death of drivers, passengers, nearby pedestrians or people travelling in other vehicles.
"Brake is urging the government to take steps now to stop more families suffering the devastation of the death of a teenager," Ms Booth added.
The road safety charity recently urged the government to take a zero tolerance approach to drink driving by banning the consumption of any alcohol before getting behind the wheel of a car.
