Britons warned against neglecting breakdown cover.
Intense financial pressures are leading Britons to ditch breakdown cover and refrain from getting their cars serviced, it has been revealed.

A survey conducted by Ford found 18% of British car owners do not have any form of breakdown cover, while 15% have chosen to delay or pass up on the chance to have their car serviced.

According to Ford, many have been motivated to cut costs by rising fuel prices and the increasing road tax burden.

However, Mike Weatherston, group service marketing manager at Hendy Ford, has warned motorists that economising on vehicle maintenance could backfire in the long run, with a recent study by Which? showing one in six vehicles break down at least once a year.

"It's a story we hear often but while trying to avoid the cost, many of these drivers could regret skipping basic maintenance and roadside cover," he commented.

M&S Money research suggests breakdowns are more likely to occur over bank holiday weekends, with longer journeys and congestion leading to a greater chance of a car overheating.ADNFCR-2196-ID-19801788-ADNFCR ADNFCR-2196-ID-19464191-ADNFCR
