Mother's day gifts 'must be covered by insurance'

Check gifts are covered by home insurance.
Britons who have purchased pricey gifts for Mother's day should check sufficient home insurance cover is in place, an expert has said.
Matt Ward, wealth management consultant at Defaqto, pointed out that not all policies provide cover for jewellery when it is worn outside the home.
"Personal possessions cover isn't standard on some home contents policies, so it is worth checking if she is likely to take valuable items outside of the house regularly," Mr Ward explained.
The consultant also noted that standard policies often have a maximum limit for specific items, which means that expensive pieces of jewellery may not be covered.
He advised: "Make sure your mum is aware of her policy limit and specify any items that have a higher value, to ensure that she is correctly insured."
Insurers issued similar guidance before Valentine's day, with Hiscox and M&S Money both noting that, while a seemingly unromantic gesture, anyone buying an expensive ring should first check their other half's home insurance policy.
