MBNA Europe expands online credit card activation

More choice for activating MBNA Europe credit cards.
Britons possessing MBNA Europe credit cards can now activate them online, it was confirmed yesterday (August 26th).
Although the company, which is a subsidiary of Bank of America, has offered the service for the past two years, it had been restricted to re-issued cards only.
However, all of its UK and Ireland customers now have a choice of channels when they decide to activate new, replacement or re-issued cards.
Ian Craig, customer service and channel fulfilment executive for Bank of America Europe Card Services, explained that it is "quite right" to give cardholders as many options as possible.
"Our customers tell us they want more online options to service their accounts so it makes sense to open up online activation to everyone," he said.
"The majority of our new accounts are applied for online; so for many, it is the right channel to offer more."
MBNA Europe revealed earlier this year that it will adopt the government's new positive order of payments regulations from September 1st onwards.
