Majority of users bemoan mobile broadband speeds
27 September 2011 15:58:47
Mobile broadband users do not always get their expected speeds.
The majority of mobile broadband users have encountered a poor-quality service, according to new research from service enabler Acision.
A poll of 1,146 users, conducted by research firm YouGov on behalf of Acision, found that 77% had experienced problems when using mobile broadband.
The figure is only a slight improvement on 2010, when 84% of respondents to a similar survey said they had experienced quality issues.
In addition, 54% of respondents to this year's poll complained of slow speeds, while 42% reported connection problems.
Steven van Zanen, senior vice-president of marketing at Acision, said that infrastructure upgrades will not be enough on their own to address the quality issues reported by mobile broadband users.
He claimed: "In order to maintain a sustainable competitive edge, operators need to evolve from a purely technology-driven approach to a more customer-centric approach and gain control of all aspects of the service."
Mr Van Zanen also advised operators to offer differentiated core services so that packages based on an individual subscriber's internet usage and service needs are available when they compare broadband deals.
