Majority of homes have broadband access

Millions of homes now with broadband access.
Nearly 20m homes across the UK now have access to broadband, new figures show.
BT yesterday (August 31st) revealed that 15m homes and small businesses now access broadband through its network and, when combined with Virgin Media's customer base, the figure is thought to climb to about 19m.
According to recent data from communications regulator Ofcom, this number represents 71% of all households, up from just 35% in 2005, suggesting many homes are yet to install a broadband connection.
BT had approximately 200,000 broadband customers in August 2002 and the company has added 14.8m connections to its network in the last eight years, which works out to more than 5,000 new broadband connections a day.
Olivia Garfield, BT strategy director, said: "Broadband Britain has been a success story with widespread availability, low prices and high take up.
"The story doesn't end here as BT is now investing a further £2.5bn to roll out fibre broadband to two-thirds of the UK. This will help the UK climb the league tables for speeds, one of the few areas in which we don't lead the world."
