Brits are planning cheaper holidays this year.
The majority of people planning a holiday this year intend to make savings, a study has found.

A poll of more than 2,000 adults, conducted by Omnibus on behalf of Sainsbury's Travel Insurance, discovered that 78% of Britons plan to spend less on holidays in 2012 than in previous years.

Cost-cutting measures include staying with family and friends abroad (13%) or booking self-catering (12%) or all-inclusive (10%) holidays.

Furthermore, one in 10 people said they plan to delay booking their holiday until later in the year, with many hoping to secure a cheaper deal.

David Barrett, manager of Sainsbury's Travel Insurance, revealed that another way holidaymakers can make savings is to plan their travel money.

He urged people to "shop around for the best value for money", adding that organising travel money in advance "means that you have one less thing to worry about and are fully prepared when you reach your destination".

One solution could be to load spending money on to a prepaid credit card, many of which do not charge for overseas transactions and ATM withdrawals.

Prepaid travel cards often offer attractive exchange rates as well, with the rate fixed at the time of loading to help people control their spending more effectively.ADNFCR-2196-ID-801269582-ADNFCR ADNFCR-2196-ID-19464191-ADNFCR
