Lincoln car insurance customers stumped by trees

Even rabbits can lead to large car insurance claims.
Drivers in Lincoln are the most likely to collide with a tree, new figures from one of the UK's car insurance providers show.
The finding is one of several made by elephant.co.uk, which looked at data from over 1.3m car insurance claims over a five-year period.
While Lincoln, Shrewsbury and Taunton all appear to be hotspots for collisions with trees, drivers in Durham seem particularly prone to hitting lampposts, while those in Halifax are most likely to smash into walls.
The research also revealed that Scottish motorists are the most likely to hit an animal, something that elephant.co.uk managing director Brian Martin claimed was unsurprising.
"You would expect to find more wild and farm animals in more rural areas," he pointed out.
"However, it was unclear why we would see more collisions with lampposts, trees and walls in the other areas."
The insurer noted that a collision with even a small animal could be costly, as proven by one policyholder whose car was written off after hitting a rabbit.
Previous research by Admiral Insurance has shown that rear-end accidents are far more common than front-end collisions, costing the insurance industry over £500m per year.
