Householders 'must review home insurance deals'

Home insurance policies should cover all of a property's contents.
Householders should regularly check that all of their possessions are covered by their home insurance policy, according to NFU Mutual.

The insurance provider's chief executive, Lindsay Sinclair, explained that doing so is especially important for people who live in rural areas "and often have expensive tackle such as the lawnmowers, rotavators and chain saws in addition to the contents of their homes".

He warned that many people fail to take into account possessions stored in gardens and garages when buying home and contents cover.

"Worryingly, research carried out by NFU Mutual shows that only just over half the people surveyed had reviewed their level of home contents cover in the last year," Mr Sinclair said.

"The research also showed that only 74% of people were confident that their contents cover was sufficient to cover the total value of their possessions."

NFU Mutual's research came as a separate study from Halifax Home Insurance revealed that nearly two-thirds of Brits are concerned that they may fall victim to burglary.
