Energy bills could be slashed with new fuel cell product.
Britons could soon see their energy bills dramatically reduced after an innovative new electricity generation product received safety clearance.
The BlueGen unit, which was developed by Ceramic Fuel Cells, has received the EU consumer safety approval, CE, and could now be rolled out in the UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Japan and Australia.
According to the company, the system is capable of producing electricity in a far more efficient fashion than the existing European power grid.
"Ceramic Fuel Cells has achieved electrical efficiency of 60%, far higher than any other technology in the rapidly expanding market for small-scale power and heating generators," read a statement.
"When heat is recovered from the electricity production process, total efficiency is up to 85%, [which is] twice as efficient as the average among current European power stations."
The news comes after the government introduced a feed-in tariff for small, low-emission electricity generators, which came into force on April 1st.
Ceramic Fuel Cells is also developing fully-integrated power and heating products with E.ON, which is one of the UK's 'big six' gas and electric suppliers.
