CLA pushes for broadband grants in rural areas.
Rural homeowners should receive grants in order to help them establish broadband connections, it has been suggested.
The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) announced plans to get more households in countryside areas online at the Digital Dales colloquium last Friday (February 26th).
In an interview with BBC News, the group's Charles Trotman revealed that it is set to ask the government to make a significant investment to help it achieve this goal.
"The CLA is lobbying the government to introduce a series of broadband grants for rural areas at parish level," he told the news provider.
"We are currently developing proposals and hope to send them to [Digital Britain chief] Stephen Timms in the next two to three weeks."
The move would reduce the proportion of UK properties without broadband connections, which stood at 37% last year, according to official statistics.
Homes with fixed phone lines could soon be charged 50p per month in order to help the roll-out of super-fast broadband, if new government proposals are approved.
