Festival-goers urged to buy breakdown cover
Festival-goers urged to buy breakdown cover
22 July 2010 10:26:55
Breakdown cover is recommended for festival-goers.
Britons who are driving to festivals this summer have been urged to compare breakdown cover policies before leaving home.
Research by M&S Car Insurance suggests that over half of UK adults plan to attend at least one summer festival this year.
Nearly four-fifths (78%) of festival-goers will reach the site by car, with 57% of these driving their own vehicle.
Andrew Ferguson, M&S head of general insurance, said: "British festival-goers need to make sure this is a summer to remember for the right reasons.
"Heavy festival traffic can lead to a higher level of accidents and breakdowns."
M&S Car Insurance advises drivers to take out breakdown cover before going to any festivals, as sites tend to have long queues of traffic and cars may overheat in hot weather.
In addition, anyone attending a festival in Europe should make sure their breakdown cover policy is valid outside the UK.
The AA estimates that up to half of all breakdowns could be prevented if drivers carried out basic checks and took their cars for routine servicing.
