One of the leading car insurers aimed specifically at women has explained that female drivers benefit from cheaper motor insurance premiums because of the higher safety levels they observe.
Sheila’s Wheels, one of the few gender-specific insurers, claim that women are ‘statistically safer’ drivers.
According to a spokesperson for the insurer, female drivers not only have fewer crashes but those accidents they do have are a lot less serious and result in lower value claims.
“You’re [females] more likely to have the closer to home bumps and scrapes and lower value claims", said Niki Bolton of Sheila’s Wheels.
Ms Bolton added that men crash more frequently on motorways whilst travelling at higher speeds meaning that injuries and third-party involvement are much more likely.
This results in higher car insurance premiums for males to a level unlikely to be experienced by their female counterparts.
However, irrespective of your gender, the advice given on finding the cheapest car insurance is the same.
Both men and women should “shop around at renewal for their car insurance and not only look for a good price but also a quality product,” said Ms Bolton.
