Credit card swipe mobile app launched

New credit card swiping app for mobile phones is unveiled.
A new mobile phone app which allows individuals to make credit card payments has been officially launched.
Retailers can download 'Square' and then plug a small plastic tube into the headphone jack of an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or Android phone in order to swipe their cards.
Consumers can add a tip before using a finger to write their signature on the touch screen and they are also charged in the normal fashion by their credit card companies.
"With Square the goal is to get people in immediately and make the transaction as smooth and simple as possible," Jack Dorsey, co-founder and chairman of Twitter and the man behind Square, told Fast Company.
The official roll-out follows a successful pilot programme involving 1,000 users and Mr Dorsey is now expecting to distribute several million card swipers in the next few months.
Earlier this year, PayPal updated its iPhone application, thus allowing users to pay for goods and services with a simple 'bump' of their handset.
