Contaminated petrol to blame for breakdowns

Contaminated petrol can cause breakdowns.
Breakdown cover patrolmen have blamed the failure of a vehicle at Rawreth, Essex, on fuel that had been contaminated with water.
Vicky Purkis, 36, was taking her children to school when her car suddenly stopped working, shortly after she had visited a petrol station to top up her tank.
Ms Purkis told the Echo newspaper that the RAC patrolman who attended the call-out had witnessed a number of similar complaints.
"He tested the contents of my petrol tank and said it was just water. Basically I had filled up with £10 of water," she revealed.
A spokeswoman for the RAC, Vicki Burn, told the local newspaper that the high water table could have contributed to the problem.
"There were at least eight incidents, not all dealt with by us, but [by] local contractors and other breakdown organisations," she revealed.
According to BP, water contamination in petrol is a common problem experienced by motorists and is often the result of poorly-sealing caps on storage tanks, broken vents or condensation.
