20 January 2012 15:59:51
Weather-related claims have pushed up home insurance prices.
The cost of home insurance has risen in recent months, highlighting the importance of shopping around to secure the best deal.
The average buildings insurance premium rose by 3.1% during the last three months of 2012, reaching £156.95, according to the latest AA British Insurance Premium Index.
Meanwhile, contents premiums increased by 4.4%, from £77.21 to £80.58.
During the whole of 2011, the average quote for building, contents and combined policies rose by up to 11%, with the trend largely being blamed on weather-related claims.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, revealed: "Storm damage, flooding and burst pipes are top of insurers' list of worries, following two harsh winters and increasingly frequent severe weather.
"The premium increases we have seen over 2011 reflect both past losses and concern about future claims."
The figures underline the importance of taking time to compare home insurance deals, although Mr Douglas insisted that insurance "still represents good value".
Why Brits switch current accounts? According to a recent survey, Brits are becoming increasingly interested in gaining ongoing value from their Bank Accounts.
