Check home insurance for your holiday home says AA
11% of holiday homeowners don’t know if they’re covered

The AA has advised people who own holiday homes abroad to make sure that they have adequate home contents insurance to cover the items they leave there during the year.

Ian Crowder of the AA said that homeowners should make sure their carpets, curtains and furniture are also covered.

Mr Crowder called for holiday homeowners to consider security and use their “common sense”, pointing out that “you’re not going to get a very sympathetic ear from the insurer if you go out all day and leave your window open.

The comments were based on some research conducted by Zurich which found that 10% of second homeowners don’t have home insurance and 11% of holiday homeowners were unsure whether or not their current home insurance policy was sufficient.

Zurich also found that there is £15,200 worth of valuables in the average holiday home and that two thirds of homeowners do not visit it on more than one occasion in every three month period.
