Car thieves 'pretending to be breakdown patrols'

Police believe car thieves are posing as breakdown patrolmen.
Police in Maidenhead have warned breakdown cover policyholders that car thieves may be posing as breakdown drivers in order to steal vehicles without raising suspicion.
According to a report in the Maidenhead Advertiser, criminals have been making off with expensive cars by pretending to work for breakdown firms.
It is thought that the thieves are taking vehicles to order, as a number of performance cars - including a blue Porsche Boxster, a yellow Porsche 911 and a silver Mercedes E Class - have recently been removed.
Jeff Pick, Neighbourhood Watch administrator for Maidenhead, told the local news provider: "These cars can't be stolen without the keys unless they're taken away on a flatbed truck.
"The easiest way to do that is with a breakdown truck because nobody questions it."
Police in the area have advised people to look out for expensive cars being picked up by supposed breakdown trucks.
They have also urged drivers to consider having a tracker system fitted to their vehicles.
Motorists may also want to consider breakdown cover offers so that, in the event of an unexpected vehicle failure, they know their car will be collected by an authentic breakdown driver.
