A new campaign has been launched to encourage consumers to test the speed of their home broadband.
Internet users are invited to asses their true broadband speed and see if it matches the speed promised to them by their service provider.
The Gadget Show, a technology programme broadcast on Channel Five which is behind the campaign, is offering consumers the chance to test their broadband on their website.
It has long been a complaint of consumers that the speed they are sold by their provider is much lower than the speed they actually experience while online.
Jon Bentley, a presenter on the programme, said: "We think the words 'up to' that some internet service providers use when describing their service can sometimes be misleading.
"To help us find out how misleading this is, we want you to test your broadband speed and tell us how you got on."
As well as a speed test, broadband customers may also want to compare the price of their broadband to ensure they are paying a fair rate for the service.
