Unite and BAA reach settlement over airport strike threat.
Travel insurance customers are likely to breathe a sigh of relief following the news that a strike at major UK airports has been called off.

Last week, Unite revealed that union members at BAA had voted for strike action in a dispute over pay.

The union said that 74% of staff who took part in the ballot had voted in favour of industrial action.

However, the threat of a walkout has now been called off following talks between the union and the airports operator.

Brian Boyd, Unite's national officer, told the Guardian that conciliation service Acas has provided "constructive" assistance.

He revealed: "Unite's negotiating committee will recommend a much-improved offer from BAA.

"Details of the agreement will be made public once BAA staff have been advised of the improved offer."

Travel insurance customers will no doubt welcome the news, as the strike action would have affected about 2,500 flights a day.

However, many could still suffer disruption if ongoing talks between airline BA and Unite fail to reach a resolution in the near future.ADNFCR-2196-ID-800028436-ADNFCR ADNFCR-2196-ID-19464191-ADNFCR
