Health Insurance Types

There are many different levels of cover under private health insurance but the two main categories that cover private treatment are Medical Insurance and Dental Insurance.   The more straight forward requirements of diagnosis and treatment mean that dental cover is generally structured as a separate type of policy.  The growing difficulty in obtaining NHS dental treatment in many parts of the country mean that dental insurance is more widespread and easily available than full medical insurance.

Critical Illness cover is also a type of health insurance but it more directed to paying out for the non medical costs of being ill and dying.  For instance the lump sum payout from critical illness insurance may help in meeting mortgage repayment if the patient is no longer able to work due to serious illnesses such as cancer or heart disease.   As with all health and life insurance, premiums are calculated due to risk factors and will vary greatly depending on age, sex, occupation and medical history.
