Phishing

An act which involves sending a consumer an email falsely claiming to be from an established legitimate company with the aim of tricking the consumer into providing private/secure/confidential information that will then be used for identity theft or other means of financial gain. The email usually contains a link which will take the consumer to a site that looks convincingly similar to the real thing. When the consumer enters thier details, they are captured by the fraudster. Just remember that banks will never ask you for your PIN and if you are ever in doubt ring the number from a statement from the true company to confirm that the email is legitimate.
