Platinum Credit Cards

There was a time when you had to be rich or a high earner to qualify for a Platinum credit card. Today they still retain some of that status image even though they are less exclusive and much more widely available. Read more...>

Most Platinum credit card issuers will require you to have an income in the range of £20,000 per annum and a good credit history before you are eligible for one.

The advantages of Platinum cards are rarely seen in the interest rates they offer because they are in line with those charged on standard credit cards. However, there are often other benefits. Cashback offers and reward schemes are usually an element of having a Platinum card along with other incentives such as travel insurance.

For customers who often use their credit card to withdraw cash, the withdrawal limit is likely to be higher on a Platinum card. The credit limit is also likely to be higher when using the card for purchases.  Both of these advantages reflect the high income image of the Platinum card carrier.

Top Tips

  • If you are looking to choose a credit card based on the interest rate alone, a Platinum card is unlikely to match your needs
  • If you make large purchases with your card and need a high credit limit, a Platinum card may suit you
  • If you like to earn points or gain cashback on your transactions then compare the Platinum cards to see if there is a scheme you like
