Breakdown Calculator

Have you ever wondered how much it would cost you if you broke down but didn’t have breakdown cover? Well now you can find out by using the compareandsave.com Breakdown Calculator. The key thing to bear in mind when you see how much it would cost you if you broke down is that basic breakdown cover policies start from as little as £25 per year.

The £50 call out charge is a fixed fee and reflects the approximate average cost of a private recovery from an independent recovery contractor according to the RAC.

The cost of towing per mile, again based on the above approximate average cost, is £1.50 and is charged on ‘return miles’. Read more...>

What this means is that the independent recovery contractor will charge you per mile from when they leave the depot until they get back to the depot. To compensate for this cost, the number of miles you enter will be multiplied by two to reflect the fact that the recovery contractor will need to return to the depot. On top of that the calculator will add a set number of miles to reflect the maximum distance a contractor is likely to travel from its depot to come and assist you (we capped it at 15 miles each way).

The thing to remember is that this calculator will give you the approximate average MAXIMUM cost of calling an independent recovery contractor to assist you during a breakdown.

The costs will also vary by region, day of the week and the time of the day but can still serve as a good guide to how much you could potentially save by having roadside assistance.
