Mac Broadband

Mac broadband is the same as any other broadband but there can be some hardware issues for connection. Most broadband packages come with a pre-configured modem or router that if you are a PC user you just plug in and use with minimal set-up. If you have an Apple Macintosh computer, or a mac as they are known, you may experience problems with modem compatibility. If you then try to use the ISP’s standard support you may find that it isn’t designed to help mac users. Read more...>

Mac computers themselves are well suited to the internet and services that Apple offer such as itunes for downloading music are very efficient so it can be frustrating to find that the provided modem from the ISP that comes as part of the cost isn’t Mac compatible.

If you are a Mac user you should make sure that not only is the ISP that you choose used to supplying Mac customers but also that they have a trained support team that can help if any issues arise.

Other than the possible connection issues choosing an ISP if you have a Mac will be the same as choosing one for a PC, in that connection speed, download limits and price are the three main factors to consider.

Top Tips

  • Mac users can find ISPs who supply Mac compatible modems but it’s worth making sure before you sign up
  • The number of Mac compatible ISPs with Mac support is growing and so choice should continue to get wider
  • Download limits and price should still form the basis of the broadband choice onve you are happy that the ISP is Mac friendly
