Broadband is ‘always on’ and doesn’t need the dial up. The massive uptake of broadband has allowed home users to take full advantage of the internet including downloads of sound files and video as well as interactive online gaming.

Broadband not only allows standard telephone calls to be made while the user is on the internet, the broadband connection itself can be used to make telephone calls which gives it a whole range of cost saving possibilities. It’s also possible to use a broadband connection to access digital television.

Although it is possible to have special fibre optic cables supply broadband most home users will use the BT phone network of cables via a method called ADSL unless they already have cable access in their area.
