European Breakdown Cover

European breakdown cover varies between providers. With most, it is an extension of the UK premium breakdown cover, generally up to a certain number of days out of the year as a single-trip policy or an annual multi-trip policy. This means that you will receive all the features of the UK premium cover, but pay extra to have the assistance when travelling in Europe. Read more...>

Some providers offer basic or comprehensive European breakdown cover. Basic European cover will generally provide you with roadside assistance and repatriation and comprehensive European cover will supply you with a replacement car, or pay for any accommodation costs, whilst your car is in for repairs.

Most providers offer English-speaking operators and assistance is generally offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Top Tips

  • If you are likely to travel abroad regularly and drive your own vehicle, you would probably benefit from European breakdown cover
  • Some providers may charge excesses for European breakdown cover so be sure to check the terms and conditions before buying a policy.
  • Some providers will only offer European breakdown cover if you already have UK breakdown cover with them. With others you can buy it as a stand-alone policy.
