Direct Line Pet Insurance is currently offering new customers a £20 contribution towards flea prevention.

According to Frontline, a popular flea prevention medicine chosen by the majority of vets, “the irritation that fleas, ticks and lice can cause your pet may only be part of the problem”.

“Fleas and ticks have the potential to pass on diseases that can affect you pet and, rarely, you too.”

The company also say that it is likely that your cat or dog will “experience a flea infestation at some time in their life”.

Frontline generally costs around £30 (online) for a course of 6 treatments for a dog weighing between 20 and 40kg and around £12 for a course of 3 treatments for a cat.

However, if you take out Direct Line Pet Insurance, you will be given a £20 voucher towards this cost which will take the sting out of the cost of this essential purchase for your much-loved cat or dog.

What’s more, Direct Line Pet Insurance comes with a 10% online discount and a further 10% discount if you insure more than one pet (there is a limit of one voucher per customer, not per pet, however more than one pet could likely be treated with one purchase of the flea prevention remedy).

Plus, Direct Line will pay the vet direct in the event of a claim so you won’t have to worry about stumping up large sums of money should your pet become ill leaving you with more time to care for your pet instead of worry about finding the money to get them well again.

Great Direct Line pet insurance offer

These days having pets isn’t cheap. That’s why we thought we’d tell you about a great way to cut on some of the cost.

Direct Line is currently offering up to £20 towards the cost of your pet’s vaccinations if you insure your pet with them before 31st March 2008. The offer is redeemable within the first 12 months from the start of the policy.

It may seem like an unecessary expense in times of the credit crunch but having pet insurance should cover you from having a large vet bill when your pet unexpectedly becomes ill.

If you have more than one pet to be insured direct line will give you a 10% discount.

If you only have one pet to insure, don’t worry because those that apply online also get a 10% discount.

If your pet does need that trip to the vet, Direct Line can pay the vet directly therefore reducing the hassle during such a stressful time.

Your pet will be covered per condition therefore there’s no restriction on how many times you can claim and you will only have to pay a fixed one-off excess for each condition.

What’s more, if you’re hospitalised, they will also pay up to £1000 towards the cost of boarding your pet.

Know your pet’s insurance

Insurance isn’t cheap. It is therefore important that you know the limitations of policies so that you can choose the one that is best for you.

This is equally important if you have pet insurance. As an animal lover, you want the best for your pets, an obvious fact if you have pet insurance for them.

Often people get caught out by not having enough cover for their pets. What they don’t realise is that often premiums will only allow a certain amount per individual illness that your pet becomes afflicted with. Once this limit is reached, you will have to foot the rest of the bill. With other bills on the up, it will likely be a very unwelcome expense, and such a heart wrenching decision to make especially if you end up having to choose between your pet’s health and buying food or another essential.

Make sure that when you take out the cover, you take this into account so that you really get the most out of your pet insurance.

Store offers pet insurance deal

A supermarket chain is offering 30-days' free pet insurance cover to owners who apply for a policy online before the end of the month.

Sainsbury's pet insurance for cats and dogs includes up to £6,500 for vets' fees to help pay for accidents or illness, which the group claims is one of the highest totals of any UK pet insurance product.

The cover also provides help with costs relating to finding a lost or stolen pet.

There is no time limit on claims in relation to vets' fees, unlike several other rival policies which have a 12-month cut-off period.

A spokesman from Sainsbury's pet insurance said the cover even extends to cats and dogs which have been obtained from rescue centres.

The free offer is available to those who apply online before November 27, while as an added bonus animal lovers who apply over the internet before December 29 will also receive a 10% discount.
