20 May 2013 :

Prepaid debit cards are an easy way to share money between family and friends across the world.  They are also one of the main growth areas in international banking and the prepaid visa card market is estimated to be worth £500 billion globally.

And now, Lebara, the leading provider of low-cost international mobile phone calls, has launched its first prepaid debit card.

Leading mobile call provider enters prepaid debit cards market

Lebara has attracted over 2.5 million active mobile customers since its launch ten years ago. Now, the telecommunications giant has teamed up with MasterCard and the Newcastle Building Society to launch a brand new prepaid debit card. The card will offer a quick, safe and competitive domestic and international money sharing service.

John Warden, Operations Director for NBS said: “NBS is delighted to be partnering with Lebara and MasterCard. We have three experts in their individual fields coming together to provide what will be an extremely strong offering for the UK’s ethnic communities. We are confident that the service and dual card facility will give customers a real sense of security and control over their finances.”

Two card facility allows secure and competitive money transfer

The Lebara Prepaid Mastercard offers customers two linked prepaid debit cards. The sender and receiver benefit from near instant transfer between the cards.

Cash is loaded on to the UK-based card either through a debit card, bank transfer or at over 35,000 locations, including PayPoint and Post Office. The money can then be moved to the beneficiary’s card.  The receiver can use the money instantly by swiping the MasterCard at the vendor’s point of sale or to obtain cash from an ATM.

There is no need to pass a credit check and no bank account is needed and you remain in full control of your funds because the card is 100% prepaid.

So, if you are looking for a prepaid debit card that allows you to move money easily and simply between the UK and another country, this brand new Lebara Prepaid MasterCard could be perfect for you.
