It is obvious why a person with a spouse and/or children should buy life insurance. After all, if the policyholder dies, the beneficiaries will receive a cash payout that can help prevent a monetary catastrophe on top of the pain of dealing with the death of a loved one. But the truth is, almost every adult can take advantage of the benefits of life insurance, even if they are single.

For example, a single person may want to have a life insurance policy with a parent as the main beneficiary so that the costs of a funeral will be taken care of. Someone with a niece or nephew with special needs may want to have a life insurance policy that would benefit that person in the event of the policyholder’s death. Or, someone with a special affinity for a certain charity may want to have a life insurance policy with the charity as beneficiary so that their charitable works will continue after their death.

Calculating the size of the life insurance policy you need is a matter of understanding the needs of those you would be leaving behind in the event of your death. You may think that because you’re “just” a housewife that you don’t need a life insurance policy or that you only need a small one. But the fact is, replacing the services of a stay-at-home parent is extremely expensive, so it’s well worth considering a life insurance policy.

You should also take into account the ages of your children. Most people want to provide for their children until they turn 18 or are out on their own. After this time, many people have life insurance with their spouse or partner as the beneficiary to cover funeral costs and other costs of settling their estate. Even pensioners may want life insurance to help their survivors with their final expenses.

Regardless of your situation in life, you should compare life insurance policies and strongly consider whether your individual needs and circumstances would indicate the need to buy one. Term life insurance is very affordable and can do your beneficiaries a world of good during a very trying time.
