With so many pet insurance providers, it is difficult to know where to start looking. You can compare pet insurance based on a “per year, per condition” policy basis, an annual policy basis, or a simple “per condition” policy basis. The best pet insurance for you will depend on your pet’s age, breed, and general health.
On a “per condition per year” basis for cats, the Argos Platinum Pet Insurance policy scores well. It covers up to £7,000 for vet fees and up to £1,500 for death due to illness or accident if your cat is under 10 years old. For dogs, Argos Platinum also scores well. The main difference between Argos’ dog and cat cover is that the £1,500 death benefit only covers dogs to age 8.
On an annual cover basis, Halifax’s Pet Insurance Extra covers £6,000 in vet bills and £1,000 for death due to illness or accident for cats up to age 10 and is well-regarded by cat owners. For dogs, Homebase Pet Insurance offers a Platinum policy that provides up to £7,500 worth of cover every 12 months for vet fees and £1,500 for death due to illness or accident for dogs under age 8, and is highly rated by dog owners.
For insuring cats on a “per condition” basis, eSure’s Pet Plus policy is highly rated and covers £7,500 in vet bills and £1,500 for death in cats up to age 8. The identical eSure policy for dogs is one of the highest rated “per condition” plans for dogs.
