If you have a travel insurance policy that covers trips to Europe, you might be pleasantly surprised to find out that there are also non-EU countries that are covered under your policy as well. Be sure to check which specific countries are covered under your travel policy, because it could save you from purchasing redundant insurance protection.
For example, some insurers cover countries to the west of the Ural Mountains (such as Belarus and Ukraine), the Channel Islands, the Azores, the Isle of Man, Madeira, Iceland, Egypt, the Canary Islands, and countries that border on the Mediterranean. As for Mediterranean countries, there are usually exceptions, and countries like Libya, Algeria, Israel, Lebanon, and Jordan are not covered. To get travel cover for these countries, you will usually have to purchase worldwide travel insurance.
Travel insurance is generally quite inexpensive, and the best travel insurance can help your holiday go much more smoothly in the event of an illness, accident, lost luggage, or other mishap. Of course you should compare travel insurance policies based on factors such as whether your holiday is a one-off event, or if you plan to travel multiple times. If you plan to travel more than once outside the UK within a year, you often come out better buying an annual multi-trip policy rather than buying a single trip policy.
