In the UK, motor insurance suppliers, have identified an increasing number of people travelling by motorbike. The motorbike market continues to be dominated by men but there has been a shift in the type of customer since 2004.
Female First reports, there has seen an increasing number of females opting for the motorbike to help them get around. They claim the number of female riders has doubled over the past three years. Motorbike insurance company, elephant.co.uk also predicts over the next few years, we will continue to see an increase in the number of women riding bikes on the roads in the UK. Lady Insure, claim that women bike riders are statistically much safer on two wheels than men; which means less risk to the bike insurance provider and lower premiums for them.
According to a survey, by elephant.co.uk, there has also been a growing trend of “born again” bikers who are reliving their youth. The over 40’s group tend to have the most cash to splash out for fun lifestyle activities, now that their children have grown up and flown the nest. However this group of riders are most likely to have a crash, as bikes have changed since they learnt to ride. It was also reported that the over 40s were a third more likely to have had an accident than those aged under 40.
